Goa has long been a focal point for historical, artistic, and social inquiry, often viewed through narratives shaped by colonial legacies and global perspectives. However, a critical engagement with both contemporary and historical Goan perspectives reveals a more nuanced and dynamic understanding of its society, arts, and history.

This conference aims to highlight Goan voices, methodologies, and epistemologies by bringing together scholars from various disciplines to explore Goa from within. It will feature innovative approaches that challenge dominant historiographies and methodologies, thus going beyond the traditionally Catholic-Portuguese-centric lens that is often been employed in dominant academic perspectives and in (critiques of) artistic representations. In so doing, this conference aims to center Goan knowledge-making, new scholarship on Goa, and to envision future directions for the field.
