It outlines the purpose of the book as well as a brief overview of Portugal in the European Union, stressing the positive outcomes and sentiment resulted from the integration process. Joining the European project not only resulted in a had a significant impact on Portugal’s economic and social fabric and on the modernisation of public administration and a deep-set attachment to the integration project and to European politics, but also added strength to common institutions and collaborated in defining a European position in the major strategic challenges faced by the Union.
