In the United States, the path towards the Knowledge Economy has been debated for quite some time under the contexts of “Innovation” and “Competitiveness”. In recent years, there have been two different periods when this debate became one of the primary issues among Washington’s policymakers. This paper deals with this topic by analyzing the major issues and implementations of the American competitive initiative, the impact of foreign policy and external relations, etc. Several graphs with quantitative data are presented.
