Adesão à Europa e Política Europeia
Portugal and European Integration – Negotiations and Legal Implications, por José Luís da Cruz Vilaça
In this paper the author traces the negotiations and legal implications of Portugal’s integration process in Europe, dividing it in a bipartite way. In the first part, it outlines the negotiation and diplomatic processes that eventually leaded to the signing of the Accession Treaty in June 1985. In the second part, the author traces the serious implications that the accession to the European Communities had for the Portuguese legal framework – which were not limited to the institutional level, but affected secondary legislation and regulation on an endless number of activities –, from 1985 to the Treaty of Maastricht.
