Segurança e Defesa
Social democratic parties in NATO countries: A Return to consensus?, por Bruce George and Mark Stenhouse
The purpose of this paper is to review how the largest socialist parties of Western Europe in NATO considered defence in a post-Cold War world. A historical context has been set since the end of World War II concerning the position of socialists throughout Europe in collective security; the major disagreements in NATO including with nuclear power and defence policy; the particular case of Southern European socialists and NATO. Finally, a forecast is made of the political shape for the future, that is, if defence and security issues will be features in the elections of several European countries.
