This paper addresses the apparent drift between the US and the EU regarding the positions of American and European leaders concerning the use of military might and diplomacy in foreign policy-making. For the author, the real reason for this, given that both share the same values and see the future in a similar way, is the way each side interprets and works with the same political and cultural federalism tradition. The theories of federalism and the American and European political agenda are addressed.
