Nem pena nem paixão
Depois de quase duas décadas sem apresentar individualmente o seu trabalho em Lisboa — e numa das raríssimas ocasiões em que expõe na capital portuguesa —, Paulo Serra (1965, Algarve) regressa com uma mostra individual que reúne uma selecção da sua mais recente produção em desenho e pintura.

A exposição centra-se numa exploração das capacidades da representação, particularmente através do autorretrato, de retratos de familiares e de paisagens algarvias, região onde o artista tem vivido a maior parte da sua vida. Nestes trabalhos, convoca uma galeria íntima de fantasmas e demónios, mas também de afectividades e intensidades pessoais, que atravessam e tensionam cada obra. O resultado é um território pictórico onde se sobrepõem felicidades e tristezas, desejos, angústias ou temores, entre o palimpsesto e o exorcismo.
Este projecto é o quarto do novo ciclo de programação da Salto, desenhado e com curadoria de David Revés e Nicolai Sarbib, marcando ainda o início da parceria estabelecida com a Associação Alfaia, Loulé, com quem organizámos e produzimos esta exposição.

After almost two decades without presenting his work individually in Lisbon — and on one of the very rare occasions he exhibits in the Portuguese capital — Paulo Serra (b. 1965, Algarve) returns with a solo show bringing together a selection of his most recent drawings and paintings.
The exhibition focuses on an exploration of the possibilities of representation, particularly through self-portraiture, portraits of family members, and landscapes of the Algarve region, where the artist has spent most of his life. In these works, he conjures an intimate gallery of ghosts and demons, but also of personal affections and intensities, which traverse and strain each image. The result is a pictorial territory where joys and sorrows, desires, anxieties, and fears overlap, between palimpsest and exorcism.
This project is the fourth in Salto’s new curatorial cycle, conceived and curated by David Revés and Nicolai Sarbib, and also marks the beginning of a partnership with Associação Alfaia, Loulé, with whom this exhibition was jointly organised and produced.
