Extreme poverty determines how post-conflict peacekeeping is heavily dependent on international aid. This international pressure creates tension in the development process of a Mozambican culture and economy. This paper analyses international involvement in Mozambique’s transformation process, explores the impact of economic reform on destabilizing peacebuilding in Mozambique, and assesses the strengths and weaknesses of the United Nations Operation in Mozambique (ONUMOZ).
