As events unfold in South Africa most attention has been given to the redistribution of political and economic power between the main sections of society, but the international community must also consider how it should react if and when the domestic issues are resolved. This paper is concerned with the trade policy that the European Community should adopt when an acceptable government is installed in Pretoria, and the implications of each option for intraregional trade in Southern Africa.
