Na terra dos Inuit, longe do mundo, Iqaluit é, no entanto, uma cidade cosmopolita, pois muitas pessoas vêm dos quatro cantos do mundo para trabalhar nesta capital do território canadiano de Nunavut. Uma cidade onde vivem cerca de 8.000 habitantes, um microcosmo diversificado em solo ártico. Estrada para Lugar Nenhum convida-o a percorrer a estrada gelada que começa e acaba neste lugar onde muitos mundos coexistem. Um filme que se propõe atravessar portas literal e figurativamente, observar os acontecimentos do quotidiano, a repetição de gestos e os hábitos de cada pessoa. Aqui, trata-se de captar como a vida se desenrola no íntimo e no ordinário, um olhar de soslaio que questiona a presença de cada pessoa, a relação com as suas raízes e o seu futuro. Um filme que se revela como uma tela habilmente tecida num fresco coletivo à beira do mundo, onde o trivial, a poesia e o paradoxo se entrelaçam.

Reconstrução fascinante e emocionante da ascensão e queda da empresa de criptomoedas OneCoin. Tudo começou em 2016 com a promessa da OneCoin de que se tornaria a maior criptomoeda do mundo. Milhões de pessoas investiram dinheiro, pelo menos em parte devido ao carisma dos líderes do esquema, Sebastian Greenwood e Ruja Ignatova. Utilizaram notórias táticas de esquema em pirâmide, realizando reuniões de gala para incitar o entusiasmo entre os seus membros e atrair as suas próprias redes para a compra de moedas digitais. O protagonista desta história é Bjørn Bjercke. Logo após a OneCoin o ter abordado em busca da sua expertise, descobriu que havia todo o tipo de coisas erradas. Bjercke decidiu partilhar este conhecimento publicamente, apesar do risco de vida que isso representaria. O filme levanta questões sobre a natureza humana: porque é que algumas pessoas desviam o olhar, enquanto outras se refugiam nas barricadas? E como é que o nosso desejo por mais é tão forte ao ponto de nos deixarmos enganar? As vítimas falam sobre as suas motivações e os especialistas em influência confrontam-nos com as nossas vulnerabilidades: o medo do fracasso e a necessidade de pertença.

Road to Nowhere

In Inuit land, away from the world, Iqaluit is nevertheless a cosmopolitan city, because many people come from the four corners of the world to work in this capital of the Canadian territory of Nunavut. A city where some 8,000 inhabitants live, a diverse microcosm in Arctic soil. Road to Nowhere invites you to travel the icy road that begins and ends in this place where many worlds coexist. A film which undertakes to cross doors literally and figuratively, to observe everyday events, the repetition of gestures and the habits of each person. Here, it is a question of capturing how life unfolds in the intimate and the ordinary, a sideways look that questions the presence of each person, the relationship to their roots and their future. A film that reveals itself as a canvas skilfully woven into a collective fresco on the edge of the world where the trivial, poetry and paradox intertwine.

Fascinating and thrilling reconstruction of the rise and fall of the crypto currency company OneCoin. It all started in 2016 with OneCoin’s promise that it would become the world’s biggest crypto currency. Millions of people invested money, at least partly due to the charisma of the scheme’s leaders Sebastian Greenwood and Ruja Ignatova. They used notorious pyramid scheme tactics, holding gala style meetings to whip up enthusiasm among their members to draw their own networks into buying digital currency. The protagonist of this story is Bjørn Bjercke. Soon after OneCoin approached him for his expertise he discovered all sorts of things were amiss. Bjercke decided to share this knowledge publicly, despite the life-threatening danger that would entail. The film raises questions about human nature: Why do some people look away, while others go to the barricades? And how come our craving for more is so powerful that we let ourselves be fooled? Victims talk about their motivations, and influence experts confront us with our vulnerabilities: the fear of failure and a need for belonging.
